Recycled Craft Room Organization Ideas (Pottery Barn Style, Free DIYs)
If you love the Pottery Barn aesthetic but don’t love the price tags, these projects are for you. In today’s craft room refresh, I turned 10 everyday recycled items—things most of us throw away—into beautiful, neutral, Pottery Barn–style organization for my craft room. Every bin, jar, tray, and container you see here was free, made using items from my recycling bin and leftover materials I already had on hand. This post walks through each DIY storage idea, what it’s best used for, and how to style it so your space looks calm, cohesive, and functional—not cluttered or crafty. If you’re organizing a Cricut craft room, home office, or creative workspace, these ideas work anywhere you want storage that looks as good as it functions.

In case you’re in a hurry…
DIY #1: Coffee Pod Boxes → Linen Storage Bins
Best for: Bulk craft supplies, fabric scraps, cardstock, vinyl rolls
I wrapped empty coffee pod boxes in linen fabric and added fabric swatch label panels for a soft, high-end look. These bins are perfect for hiding visual clutter while keeping shelves cohesive.
Why it works:
Rectangular shape = shelf-friendly
Fabric texture = Pottery Barn feel
Free + sturdy = win
Can you use cardboard boxes for craft storage?
Yes—when reinforced and wrapped in fabric, cardboard boxes make excellent lightweight storage bins.
DIY #2: Bisquick Box → File Folder Storage
Best for: Project files, printables, Cricut cut guides, blog drafts
I turned a cereal-style box inside out, trimmed it into a magazine/file shape, and wrapped it in linen. This keeps paper projects upright and organized without bulky binders.
DIY #3: Egg Cartons → Small Parts Organizer
Best for: Brads, beads, eyelets, jump rings, small hardware
Egg cartons are perfect built-in dividers. I kept these neutral and open so you can see everything at a glance.
Why it works:
No extra containers needed
Great for drawers or shelves
Zero cost
DIY #4: Glass Jars → Paint Brush Storage
Best for: Paint brushes, pens, scissors, craft knives
I wrapped only the bottom third of each jar in linen to keep visibility while adding softness. These sit on a lazy Susan for easy access.
Design tip: No labels needed—the contents are obvious and the jars act as visual calm against colorful supplies.
DIY #5: Dishwasher Pod Container → Flip-Top Rag Bin
Best for: Reusable rags, cleaning cloths, shop towels
This container already has a flip lid, which makes it perfect for quick grab-and-go use. I painted the lid white and wrapped the body in linen just below the lip so it still functions properly.
What’s the best way to store reusable cleaning rags?
Use a flip-top container so you can grab one cloth at a time without unfolding the entire stack.
DIY #6: Vinegar Jug → Cord & Tool Storage Bin
Best for: Glue guns, heat tool cords, extension cords
I cut the jug into a scoop-style bin, wrapped it in linen, and added rope handles for easy lifting. This works beautifully inside cabinets or on lower shelves.
DIY #7: Cherry Tomato Containers → Mini Tool + Scrap Boxes
Best for: Cricut tools, vinyl scraps, small project kits
I painted the base and left the clear lid intact so contents stay visible. These are perfect for grab-and-go projects.
DIY #8: Toilet Paper Rolls → Modular Drawer Organizers
Best for: Vinyl scraps, cords, small tools
Wrapped in fabric and grouped together, these create custom drawer dividers or vertical storage inside bins.
DIY #9: Zippered Curtain Bags → Clear Craft Storage
Best for: Seasonal crafts, ornaments, Cricut materials, project kits
These clear zippered bags originally came with curtains — and instead of tossing them, I repurposed them into functional, dust-free craft storage.
Because they’re already structured and zip closed, they’re perfect for holding:
- seasonal craft supplies
- ornaments and small décor
- Cricut vinyl rolls or project kits
- works-in-progress you want to keep together
The clear design makes it easy to see what’s inside at a glance, while the zipper keeps everything contained and protected on shelves or in closets.
Why this works:
Most craft storage hides items completely or lets them get dusty. These bags solve both problems — and they cost nothing.
What can you do with zippered curtain packaging?
Zippered curtain bags make great reusable storage for crafts, seasonal décor, and project supplies because they’re clear, lightweight, and already designed to stack.
DIY #10: Fabric Swatches → Labels + Texture
Fabric swatches were used as:
- Label panels
- Texture accents
- Visual consistency across all projects
This small detail ties everything together.
Final Shelf Styling Tips
- Label only what isn’t obvious
- Mix closed storage (bins) with open storage (jars)
- Keep colors neutral so creative supplies shine
Wrap-Up
This entire craft room organization refresh was made using recycled items, not Dollar Tree bins or Amazon purchases—and that’s what makes it so powerful. If you missed it, last week’s video focused on Dollar Tree craft room organization containers, and this week’s video shows what’s possible when you use what you already have. You don’t need more bins—you need better systems.
