Craft Room Glow-Up
Three years ago, I started transforming this space into my dream craft room. It’s been through a lot—trial and error, sofa swaps, storage battles, and vinyl chaos—but today I’m sharing what’s changed lately, what’s still evolving, and how I used ChatGPT to help me reimagine the space! Keep reading to see my Craft Room Glow-Up: What’s New, What’s Gone & What’s Coming Back!

When AI Meets DIY
Not long ago, I asked ChatGPT to help me make my craft room look better—and wow, it came back with the cutest, most practical refresh ideas. One of those suggestions? Simplify the shelves, add a pegboard desk setup, and rearrange to create better zones for crafting and creating content.
So that’s exactly what I did.
Here’s what this side of my craft room looks like after implementing these changes.
Craft Room Storage
I also love using these bins in my craft room to hide Cricut supplies, paper packs, and half-finished projects. They keep everything looking neat while still being easy to grab when inspiration hits.
The Sofa Shuffle: Out (for Now)… But Maybe Coming Back
If you’ve followed my craft room journey, you might remember I had a sofa bed in here. Recently, I moved it back into our home gym space, which I’ve turned into a small family room (reveal coming soon!). I’m still debating whether I’ll bring the sofa bed back or add a futon-style couch that fits better with my current setup. Because let’s be real—every craft room needs a cozy corner, right?
Small Changes = Big Cozy Energy
I also made a few subtle updates that totally changed the feel of the room:
- The rug is gone for now (but it might make a comeback if I bring the sofa back in).
- I added simple faux-style curtains—they’re real fabric panels, but more for softness and style than function. Since the curtain rod is short and mounted on each side of the window, the panels stay open to frame the light and add a cozy feel.
- And yes… we finally installed smart blinds! Total game-changer for controlling the natural light, especially when I’m filming or working during bright afternoons.
✨ DIY Command Center Makeover (on a Budget!)
One of my favorite upgrades in this craft room glow-up was turning plain wood cabinet doors into a functional command center using only Dollar Tree supplies! With just a little creativity, I transformed these old cabinet doors into a stylish space to organize to-do lists, reminders, and supplies — all without spending a fortune. It’s proof that you don’t need a big budget to create a workspace that works for you!
Standing Desk Flip + Filming Corner
One of my favorite new additions is a standing desk I thrifted. It was brown, mismatched, and kind of blah—but I saw the potential. After a coat of white paint, it now blends perfectly with the rest of my space and doubles as my filming desk (and the perfect height for my walking pad!)
I added a ring light and overhead mount to it, and now I have a dedicated space to record tutorials, printables, and DIYs. If you’re curious what gear I use, I made a freebie just for you! 👇
Filming Tools Checklist & Tools
- 📱 Phone – Samsung or iPhone Rear camera for top-down filming
- 💡 Ring Light – (Amazon) Stands on desk, includes phone holder, but I added a different holder to record overhead
- 🎥 Overhead Phone Mount – No need for bulky tripod
- 🎥 Neck Phone Mount – Record everything you do easily!
- 🛋 Standing Desk– Thrifted + painted Great height for standing or stool filming
- 🧼 Mirror (optional) – IKEA or Amazon. Opens up the space + helps with alignment
- 📦 Storage Drawer unit + clear bins – Store cords, props, extra gear

Pinterest-Worthy View: Updated!
Fun fact: one of my most popular Pinterest images shows my craft room office desk and the sofa from a few years ago. It’s been repinned thousands of times!
So of course, I had to recreate that exact view—with an updated look. Scroll below to see the new version. 👇
Notice the new blinds, the rug is gone, and I added (faux) curtains to make it cozy… if I add the sofa back in then the rug will return as well.
New Organization Wins (Thanks IKEA + ChatGPT)
- Added a pegboard at my work desk —and I honestly don’t know why I waited so long!
5 Hard Truths About Craft Room Organization
Organizing a craft room isn’t all pretty bins and perfect labels — it takes work, discipline, and the right systems. The 5 hard truths? You’ll always need more storage than you think, labeling is non-negotiable, Dollar Tree hacks only go so far, projects take twice the time when your space is messy, and organization is an ongoing process.
3 Things I Quit to Make My Craft Room Work
To make my craft room actually work for me, I had to quit a few bad habits. I quit hoarding supplies I never used, I quit ignoring vertical space, and I quit mixing storage styles. Once I simplified, my craft room became a place I actually wanted to create in again.
10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Organizing My Craft Room
- You’ll Always Need More Storage Than You Think
No matter how many bins, shelves, or drawers you buy, craft supplies multiply when you’re not looking. Build in extra storage from the start. - Clear Bins Are a Lifesaver
Cute baskets are nice, but nothing beats clear containers where you can instantly see what’s inside — especially during the holiday rush. - Label Everything (and Then Label Again)
Labels aren’t optional. They’re the difference between finding your ribbon in 5 seconds and spending an hour digging through drawers. - Vertical Space = Prime Real Estate
Pegboards, wall-mounted shelves, and hanging organizers will double your storage. I wish I had used my walls sooner. - Zones Keep the Chaos Away
Designating zones (vinyl station, sewing area, paper crafting spot) prevents supplies from migrating all over the room. - Purge Before You Organize
I wasted time organizing supplies I didn’t even use anymore. Declutter first — donate, sell, or toss what you don’t love. - Budget Solutions Work Just as Well
I thought I needed expensive craft storage systems. Turns out, Dollar Tree bins and Amazon basics get the job done beautifully. - Lighting Changes Everything
Poor lighting makes even the most organized craft room feel dull. Adding task lamps and cozy lighting made my space feel inspiring. - Your Craft Room Will Never Stay Perfectly Organized
And that’s okay! It’s a working space, not a showroom. Build systems that make it easy to reset quickly after a project. - Organizing Is a Process, Not a One-Time Project
I used to think once I “organized” my room, I was done. In reality, my space evolves with my projects, so I tweak and adjust constantly.
