7 Things I Wish I Knew Before Combining a Craft Room + Guest Room
- Storage Must Be Flexible. I thought I could just shove everything in bins and call it done — nope! Guests need space for their own bags and belongings, so having flexible storage (rolling carts, clear bins that can tuck away, and hidden under-bed storage) makes a huge difference.
- Furniture Size Matters. That huge craft table I loved? It took up way too much floor space when I needed to fit a guest bed. Choosing a smaller modular table or one with storage underneath would have saved me so much rearranging.
- Guest-Ready Bedding Is Essential. I used to toss extra blankets on a futon — but real bedding, with cozy sheets and pillows, instantly makes guests feel welcome. It also doubles as a soft, comfy spot for me to craft on lazy days.
- Zoning Is Key. Without clear “zones,” the space quickly became chaotic. Now I have a craft zone (shelves + Cricut station) and a guest zone (bedside tray, lamp, blanket). That way, the space feels intentional for both uses.
- Lighting Sets the Tone. Overhead lights felt sterile. Once I added soft lamps and fairy lights, guests felt at home and I had better mood lighting for crafting. Win-win!
- Decluttering Before Guests Is Non-Negotiable. Nothing is more stressful than clearing off every surface right before someone visits. Now, I keep my supplies labeled and pared down, so prepping for guests takes minutes, not hours.
- Dual-Purpose Decor Saves Time, I wish I had realized sooner that décor could do double duty. A pretty basket works for throw blankets and craft storage, a stylish nightstand doubles as a Cricut cart, and neutral décor keeps the space cozy whether it’s “craft mode” or “guest mode.”

What’s New in the Simple Made Pretty Craft Room?
I redid my desk and craft table area and added a rug, a pull-out sofa, new blinds, and accessories. Since my hubby no longer works from home (after 15 years of working at home) I had more space to expand my desk and add a sofa to the room.
BEFORE:
My craft room is in our formal living room but you can recreate the same ideas in a bedroom. This room serves as a guest room, living room, home office, and craft room. This room has many purposes and it’s one of my favorite places in our home!
My hubby’s desk area was just taking up space and collecting dust over the past year so I decided it was time to give the desk area a makeover! We also changed the window blinds because the previous bamboo blinds were light filtering and we needed privacy blinds.

I also moved my Laser Cutting Machines into our Shed. See our SHED WORKSHOP MAKEOVER in this post!

I decided to add some short Billy Bookcases on top of the desktop as a hutch.

Full-Length Mirror and Olive Tree
I’m calling this little corner my Influencer Corner because it has a full-length mirror, trendy plant, and of course, I have a ring light to complete Influencer must-have items.
I don’t take a lot of selfies for social media, but this Full-Length Gold Arched Mirror makes the room feel larger and it’s nice to have a mirror when I need to do a quick check for YouTube videos and stories 😉
I chose this mirror because you can stand it using the legs or hang it on the wall. It’s a nice width and I love the arch!
The 6-foot Artificial Olive Tree was purchased to be used in our family room but it looks so much better in my craft room!
Update: I recently moved the olive tree and mirror into our bedroom and family room to make space for my Cricut AutoPress which is sitting on top of my grandmother’s vintage cedar chest.

New Office Chairs
I chose these Sherpa Accent Chairs from Amazon because they come in a pack of 2 and they look like makeup vanity chairs. I plan to use one in my bedroom with a future DIy makeup vanity desk but I’m starting to think I should keep 2 in my craft room!
I love the barrel chair style because they are comfy to rest your arms but are not like a traditional office chair.

Home Office Sofa Bed
This Ikea sofa with a pull-out bed used to be in the room next to my craft room (which we are now using as a Home Gym!). I found this sofa in the Ikea As-Is section a few years ago and it had a white cover, however, my kids have destroyed the cover so I’ll probably be updating the cover to a dark gray soon!

The sofa doubles as a workspace since I am constantly working from the couch, desk, craft table, etc. My kids love coming in here to do their homework or watch TV.
The sofa pulls out into a queen-sized bed and we can close the doors to this room when guests come over. My craft table can double as a dining table for guests too (I might eat my lunch on my craft table from time to time, lol).

White Faux Wood Window Blinds
I’ve been wanting to replace the blinds in this room for quite some time. The glare from the afternoon sun through the “light filtering” bamboo Roman shades was horrible! I also grew tired of the wood bamboo so I went with these White Faux Wood Cordless Blinds and I love it!
I also moved my Neon “Simple Made Pretty” light above the window to give a pop of pink to the room.

Gorgeous Neutral Rug
I never had a rug in my craft room before because I was afraid I’d drop paint or hot glue on it and ruin it. I decided to take a chance and found a Gorgeous Rug on Sale at Amazon.
This rug is so nice that I want it for our primary bedroom and family room too!
Adding a rug instantly gave a cozy vibe to the space and made it feel special.
