I recently discovered that a simple $1.50 Dollar Tree rug underlay can be transformed into beautiful faux cane webbing with just a little creativity and paint. And once I started experimenting… I couldn’t stop.

Before I knew it, I had created seven different high-end decor pieces — all using the same affordable material.

In this post, I’m sharing exactly how I made each project, what inspired them, and how you can recreate them in your own home.

Why I Made It

I wanted something welcoming but modern — not the typical “Welcome” sign. Short phrases like “Hey You” feel friendlier and more boutique.

Quick Tutorial

1. Cut rug underlay to fit wood round
2. Paint if desired (use mod podge first)
3. Glue rug underlay to the wood round
4. Add wood trim for framing
5. Attach letters
6. Add ribbon hanger + greenery

Style Tip
