What can I use instead of a gingerbread house?
You can use cardboard or MDF wood to make a gingerbread house. I show how to use wooden birdhouses to make fake gingerbread houses in this tutorial.
Dollar Tree DIY Faux Gingerbread Houses
Supplies:
- Wood Bird Houses
- Wood Gingerbread Ornaments
- Clay Candy Cane Ornaments
- Drywall Compound
- Beige Paint
- White Puff Paint
- Red Puff Paint
- White Glitter
Directions:

- Gather Supplies. Watch the video below for more instructions.
- Remove the dowel from the house.
- Use a plastic cup and wood popsicle stick to mix some of the drywall compound and beige paint together.
- Spread the mixture onto the wood surface evenly.
- Use White puff paint to decorate the gingerbread houses.
- Decorate the houses like you would a cookie gingerbread house.
- Finish with white glitter over everything to give it a sugar appearance.
- Let dry overnight until everything hardens.
