Circle Painted Wall Bedroom
I wanted to try color blocking in our master bedroom and decided to try a boho accent wall in the corner of our bedroom. I recently painted the wall behind our bed in Benjamin Moore In the Garden (dark green) and after hanging pictures on the wall, the corner wall felt like it was missing something. I had some leftover craft paint in a beautiful terracotta color so I painted a sun mural circle on the wall without a stencil! Keep reading and watch the video to see how this DIY Circle feature wall transformed our tropical boho themed bedroom!
How do you paint a circle on a bedroom wall?
To paint the circle on the wall, I used a piece of string tied to a thumbtack with a pencil tied to the other end. I placed the thumbtack in the wall where I wanted the middle of the circle and stretched the string out tight to use the pencil to trace a circle.
How do you paint a perfect circle on the wall?
Follow the steps above and in this tutorial to paint a perfect circle on the wall. I recommend using an angled brush to get the outside edge of the circle perfect (and paint slowly).
How do you paint a half circle on a wall?
To paint a half circle on the wall, use the same string technique to create a circle but omit one side of the circle. To create an arch, use a level and pencil to make straight lines from your half circle.

How To Paint a Circle on the Wall
Follow the step-by-step instructions below to paint the perfect circle on a wall and make a sun wall mural!
Supplies:
- String
- Thumbtack or small nail
- Pencil
- Angled Paint Brush
- Paint (I used a terracotta acrylic craft paint)
Directions:
- Gather Supplies. Please watch the video with more instructions.
- Measure String to the desired circle size. My string was 24 inches when tied.
- Tie the string to a thumbtack on one end and a pencil on the other end.
- Stick the thumbtack into the wall and stretch the string out tight so the pencil still touches the wall. Trace the circle design on the wall.
- Use an angled paintbrush (this is my favorite brand) and paint the circle. You don’t need much paint for this DIY at all. I used a small bottle of acrylic craft paint.
- I added sun rays to my circle and it turned out awesome. The rays are not perfect but the way the sun rays go under the artwork on this wall and since the sun is right next to the window, it gives it the appearance of real sun.
I’m including the measurements for my sun wall mural in case you want to replicate it.
My rays are about an inch wide each.

12 inches for long rays

7 inches for long rays

5 inches between each ray

How to pick the right paint colors
Have you ever had trouble picking the right paint colors for your home? Choosing the right paint colors for your home can be overwhelming. There are so many different “whites” and “grays” these days, how can anyone know they are making the right paint color choice?
That’s why I put together the best tips on How to Choose Interior Paint Colors in this post.
Every home is different… the entryway in our first home was much different than the entryway in our second home, and both of those were very different from the entryway in our third home! So I chose a different paint color for each entryway in all three of our homes. Not to mention, from the time that we bought our first home, to the time that we bought our third home, home paint color trends changed drastically. The colors that I used back then are no longer a trendy color and well, I just didn’t like the brown-ish tan that was in our first home, haha.
So if you need help choosing paint colors for the rest of your home, head on over to this post to see my paint-picking tips and what has worked for me in all three of our homes 🙂 My post with how to choose paint colors for your home is one of my most popular posts and readers have benefited from reading it before heading to the store to buy paint that ends up not working out.
I also have some ideas for choosing paint color combinations for bedrooms (with themes!)
Paint Versus Peel & Stick Wallpaper
Peel and stick wallpaper has become very popular recently since not everyone has access to tools to build their own Shiplap walls (thanks Chip and Joanna) or wants to tile an entire wall with subway tile. I love tiling but if I could slap up some wallpaper and call it a day, that would make me, the hubby, and my wallet happy!
You can find peel and stick wallpaper online at Target, Amazon, Home Depot, and more! I’ve linked my favorite peel and stick wallpaper and the ones I’ve used personally below.
