How To Make Thieves Wipes with Coffee Filters
This recipe uses essential oils to make DIY cleaning wipes for under $3! When I started using essential oils in 2016, I was able to rid my home of toxins. I started making my own cleaning products, bath products, and other home remedies using essential oils. I usually use Thieves cleaner or a homemade Thieves Spray and microfiber cloths to wipe down surfaces, but I made these homemade Thieves wipes for convenience. The best part about this tutorial is I share how to upcycle old glass food jars! Keep reading and watch the video to learn how to make DIY Thieves Wipes with Coffee Filters!
Please note these Thieves wipes should not be used on granite or stainless steel.

Essential Oils for Cleaning
Thieves is one of the most recommended essential oils to clean with. Thieves products replace harsh chemicals with pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils and other naturally derived ingredients. The Young Living Thieves Essential Oil blend contains Clove oil, Cinnamon Bark Oil, Eucalyptus Radiata oil, Rosemary oil, and Lemon oil. Thieves impart a spicy, welcoming aroma everywhere it’s used.
I also like to add citrus essential oil to homemade cleaning products (either Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit, Lemongrass, or Citrus Fresh) since citrus is proven to kill bacteria and give it an extra clean scent.
I use these essential oil wipes to clean light switches, TV remotes, door handles, and other surfaces that are constantly being touched in our home. Thieves essential oil gives me peace of mind that my home is clean!
The Cost to DIY these All-Purpose Cleaning Wipes
The cost to make one jar of these homemade Thieves wipes is so minimal, you’ll be wondering why you didn’t start making these DIY coffee filter wipes before. Plus, these wipes are chemical-free!
Let’s break down the cost…
- Coffee Filters – $1+
- Distilled Water – free if you make it yourself or $1+
- Thieves Essential Oil – $0.13 per drop (current pricing at Young Living) – $1.30 per jar
- Castile Soap – $0.53 per ounce/jar
Total estimated cost: $2.83
That’s just amazing to break down the price and see how cheap these essential oils wipes are to do it yourself.
I plan to continue to make these DIY cleaning wipes and give them as gifts to friends, family, and neighbors.
Homemade Cleaning Wipes with Thieves
Here is the tutorial for Thieves Wipes! You can scroll to the bottom to PRINT the recipe and add to your Essential Oils, Binder!
Supplies:
- 32-ounce Glass Jar
- Scrap Fabric
- Aleene’s Fast Grab Tacky Glue
- Pinking Scissors
- Twine
- Distilled Water
- Thieves Essential Oil
- Lemon Essential Oil (optional)
- Coffee Filters
Directions:
- Gather supplies and watch the video below for more info.
- Prepare the old food jar by cleaning previous contents. I used a 32-ounce jar for this recipe but you can make more to fit the size jars you have on-hand.
- Use a razor blade to scrap most of the jar label from the jar.
- Use Goo Gone to remove the remaining residue from the jar. My Goo Gone is a combination of Lemon Essential Oil and Fractionated Coconut Oil. You can find the full recipe for Goo Gone in this post.
- Once the Glass jar is completely clean, you can start adding the contents to make the homemade Thieves wipes.
- Add 2 cups of distilled water to the jar.
- Add 1-2 Tablespoons of Dr. Bronner’s Castile soap to the jar.
- Add 10 drops of Thieves essential oil and 10 drops of Lemon essential oil (if using Lemon).
- Stir the ingredients to combine.
- Start adding the coffee filters into the jar. I separate each filter so they do not get stuck together and if you have a small mouth on your jar like mine, you will need to fold them slightly to fit inside. Otherwise, if you have a large jar, you can just place all of the coffee filters in the mixture.
- Turn the jar upside down and give it a shake to soak all of the filters inside. Continue adding coffee filters until the jar is full and most of the liquid is absorbed. If you have too much liquid, pour the liquid into another jar, and add coffee filters to the second jar.
- Now for the fun part… making the jar look pretty. Trim a piece of scrap fabric into a square using Pinking scissors.
- Glue the fabric to the top of the lid and use twine to tie the fabric to the base of the lid. You want to be able to open the lid so you won’t be able to tie it around the neck of the jar.
- Glue the twine to the fabric on the base of the lid. This will give the jar a cute vintage/farmhouse style and no one will ever know the jar was a food jar!
- Add a cute decal or stickers to properly label the jar. You don’t want someone to mistake these wipes for personal hygiene wipes! You can get the decals I used in my shop here.
The conclusion to DIY Coffee Filter Wipes
I love using these all-purpose cleaning wipes to wipe down surfaces to keep our home clean. I use these essential oil wipes to clean light switches, TV remotes, door handles, and other surfaces that are constantly being touched in our home.

WHERE TO BUY ESSENTIAL OILS
I only use Young Living essential oils because of the quality and their method of distilling produce the best essential oils available on the market today. In fact, Young Living has a Seed to Seal guarantee that surpasses any other oil company’s guarantee of the quality and purity of their oils. Now, I don’t know about you, but I’d rather pay a little more guaranteed quality oils than paying a little less for cheap oils that may or may not provide the same benefit.
Also, Do Not Buy Young Living Essential Oils from Amazon, eBay or other third-party sites.
The reason I only buy oils directly from Young Living is the same reason I wouldn’t buy a designer handbag from the back of a van on a street corner. It’s probably not the real thing or has been tampered with in some way. You wouldn’t want to apply or ingest an “oil” that someone put something strange in or receive a bottle of “water” instead of oil (trust me, this happens all the time!). Please don’t be the one that gets scammed by buying essential oils anywhere other than Young Living!
Now that that’s out of the way, here are few more facts & benefits that Young Living offers:
- YL offers many membership benefits, including monthly essential oils, rewards programs to earn FREE product
- Young Living is also the only essential oil company that is approved by the FDA with a special line of Vitality oils and products
- YL has 22+ years of experience and is the only oil company that owns its own farms
