WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS

It’s okay if you aren’t entirely sure what essential oils are and their purpose – I didn’t either until 2016, however, I wish I knew about them 20 years ago!

Thinking about trying Young Living essential oils? Read this post first!

Essential Oils are natural oils extracted from plants and trees.Ā From Young Living’s Website: ā€œExtracted through careful steam distillation, resin tapping, and cold pressing, the purest essential oils are far more powerful than the botanical from which they come.

Essential oils have enhanced lives for thousands of years, offering a variety of benefits from cosmetic and dietary purposes to spiritual and religious use.ā€

You can use essential oils topically, inhale them, or ingest them. When applied topically, the oils travel through your bloodstream and every cell in your body in about 20 minutes.

You can inhale essential oils by diffusing them or simply inhaling directly from the bottle. Some oils can be ingested by adding a few drops to beverages, food or in a capsule. I’ve personally experienced major positive health changes by ingesting essential oilsĀ after discovering I had an overactive thyroid and Graves Disease.

8 Hacks To Make Your Home Smell Amazing Using Essential Oils

These hacks will make your home smell amazing while reducing the chemical overload in your home and are easy on the wallet!

Be sure to stock up on supplies to make the most of these ideas!

There are so many different essential oils supplies these days, it’s hard to know which ones are the best quality and functionality.

Instead of searching online and reading countless product reviews,Ā check out my post with 15 Incredibly Useful Supplies If You Use Essential OilsĀ which features the basic essential oils supplies I personally use and love.

The EO Supplies I Use Most Often Are:

  • Lip Balm Tubes
  • Roller Ball Bottles
  • 2 oz. Amber Glass Spray Bottles

DIY WaxĀ Melts

Most store-bought wax melts are filled with paraffin wax which has been linked to Cancer. There’s also the danger of unknown “fragrances” in these wax melts.

I used my Young Living essential oils to make these amazing wax melts. Instead of usinga diffuser, I just melt these in wax warmer and it fills the room with the all-natural essential oils scents. Grab the free printable labels to make a cute gift idea for the holidays!

You really don’t know what toxins you are releasing into the air that you breathe in your own home when burning Scentsy or similar wax melts.

DIY wax melts are really simple to make and are so much cheaper to DIY than buying anyway.

āœ…Ā Watch the video or follow the steps in this post to learn how to make your own All-Natural Wax Melts.

Don’t forget to use an electric wax burner or use soy/beeswax candles if you have a non-electric wax burner.

Toilet Freshener Spray

Have you heard of Poopouri? It’s spray (available here) for toilet water before you use the bathroom and it’s made with all-natural ingredients (unlike those aerosol bathroom sprays).

This DIY toilet poo pourri spray is so easy to make and is perfect for the guest bathroom!

It’s really easy to make your own using essential oils and comes in handy to have a small bottle to keep in your purse when using guest bathrooms šŸ™‚

DIY Poo Pouri Spray:

Supplies:

  • 1 or 2 oz. Amber Glass Spray Bottle
  • Distilled Water
  • Rubbing Alcohol (or Vodka)
  • Lemongrass Essential Oils
  • Bergamot Essential Oils

Directions:

  1. Pour 1-2 tsp. of rubbing alcohol into the glass bottle.
  2. Add 10-15 drops of each Lemongrass & Bergamot essential oils.
  3. Swish the oils around a bit to combine the liquids.
  4. Fill the rest of the way with distilled water.
  5. Give the bottle a shake before each use.
  6. To use: Lift toilet lid and seat. Spray directly onto surface water 4-6 sprays. Proceed to use as usual.

I made some Poo Pouri printable labels to fit 1 oz or 2 oz glass amber bottles which you can download for free in my private library. Scroll to the bottom of this page to get access!

Linen Spray

The linen spray (room freshener) that I mentioned above (which helped sell our house in 3 days) is so good, you will find yourself spraying it on everything! I would love to see more people using this spray in their homes rather than resorting to Febreeze or other toxin-filled sprays. Don’t think Febreeze is toxic? Read this.

This DIY all-natural room freshener linen spray is so easy to make with essential oils! Grab the free printable labels!

I can’t count how many homes we looked at (to buy our next house) when I walked into the house, I could smell the chemicals from the burning candles, cleaning products, or other sprays to hide pet odors, etc. It was awful.

This linen spray is all you need to make your home smell ah-mazing.

Spray it on anything fabric including curtains, lampshades, carpet, rugs, fabric chairs, sofas, pet beds, bed linens, towels, and more!

DIY Linen Spray:

Supplies:

  • 2 oz. Amber Glass Spray Bottle
  • Distilled Water
  • Lemongrass Essential Oils
  • Citrus Fresh Essential Oils

Directions:

  1. Add 10-15 drops of each Lemongrass & Citrus Fresh essential oils to the bottle.
  2. Fill the rest of the way with distilled water.
  3. Give the bottle a shake before each use.

Cotton Balls

I bet you had no idea cotton balls could be used to make your home smell good. This simple trick can help drawers, cabinets, and bathroom smell amazing.

Just a few drops of your favorite essential oil to a cotton ball and strategically place in the space you want to freshen. I’ll stick one inside a toilet paper roll/holder, inside shoes, and old antique dresser drawers (you know, the ones with a stingy smell that you can’t seem to get rid of?).

Dryer Balls

We only use reusable all-natural wool dryer balls for drying laundry because it’s better for our home environment.

Dryer balls are a must have in every home with essential oils. Reduce your cost and toxins by using all-natural wool dryer balls instead of dryer sheets

Typical dryer sheets also contain many toxins that can harm you and your pets.

āœ…Ā These are our reader’s favorite dryer balls and best seller.

Add a few drops of essential oils to dryer balls when drying washed linens. The fresh smelling linens in your home provides a clean, non-toxic scent to make your home smell amazing.

Laundry Detergent

Washing your linens with essential oils is sure to help your home smell amazing. My friend Devin has an awesome Earth-friendly DIY laundry detergent recipe that works with normal and High-Efficiency washing machines. If you’re not into DIYing your laundry detergent, just pick up some ThievesĀ laundry soap from Young LivingĀ ?

Diffusing Essential Oils

Lastly, diffusing essential oils in your home comes with benefits other than making it smell amazing. Diffusing certain oil blends can help support mood, relaxation, energy, and so much more! Diffusing Young Living essential oils provides a safer alternative to candles, incense, and other air fresheners.

Conclusion to the Best Way to Make Your Home Smell Good Using Essential Oils

These 8 hacks using essential oils will make your home smell amazing without breaking the bank while reducing toxins in your home. If you want to learn more about essential oils and in-depth information about using them, be sure to check out my post,Ā 12 Details You Need to Know Before You Start Using Essential Oils.

WHERE TO BUY ESSENTIAL OILS

I only use Young Living essential oils because of the quality and their method of distilling produce the best essential oils available on the market today. In fact, Young Living has a Seed to Seal guaranteeĀ that surpasses any other oil company’s guarantee of the quality and purity of their oils. Now, I don’t know about you, but I’d rather pay a little more guaranteed quality oils than paying a little less for cheap oils that may or may not provide the same benefit.

Also, Do Not Buy Young Living Essential Oils from Amazon,Ā eBayĀ or other third-party sites.

The reason I only buy oils directly from Young Living is the same reason I wouldn’t buy a designer handbag from the back of a van on a street corner. It’s probably not the real thing or has been tampered with in some way. You wouldn’t want to apply or ingest an ā€œoilā€ that someone put something strange in or receive a bottle of ā€œwaterā€ instead of oil (trust me, this happens all the time!). Please don’t be the one that gets scammed by buying essential oils anywhere other than Young Living!

Now that that’s out of the way, here are few more facts & benefits that Young Living offers:

  • YL offers many membership benefits, including monthly essential oils, rewards programsĀ to earn FREE product
  • Young Living is also the only essential oil company that is approved by the FDA with a special line of Vitality oils and products
  • YL has 22+ years of experience and is the only oil company that owns their own farms
