Organizing a Credenza or Media Center
I organized all of our board games and DVDs in the credenza using clear acrylic bins and plastic mesh bags. I recycled the board game boxes and placed everything in the mesh bags to get the most storage. You may have seen others using these mesh bags for the same purpose and I decided to give it a try. I’m very happy with the results!
A credenza can be an excellent piece of furniture for organizing a family room. It can provide extra storage space, while also adding a stylish touch to the room. Consider what kind of items you would like to store in the credenza – books, board games, DVDs, etc.
You can also use the top of the credenza as a display area. Utilize baskets and drawer dividers to keep things neat and organized. If you have a lot of items that need to be stored, look for a credenza with plenty of drawers and shelves.
I use one of the drawers to organize my essential oils collection.
Built-In Shelves or Bookcases
We added a built-in bookcase to our family room which increased our storage space. I used baskets to organize photo albums and other memorabilia. The shelves are stocked with our favorite books.

We also have built-in shelves next to the fireplace wall that is purely decorative. I have fairy lights, candles, plants, and other decorations on this shelf but I could use it for organizing other items if needed.
How to Organize a Family Room
Organizing a family room can be a fun and rewarding experience! Here are a few tips to get you started:
- Declutter and sort: Begin by sorting through all the items in your family room and decide what should stay and what should go. Donate or discard items that you no longer need.
- Create zones: Divide the room into different zones such as a play area, a seating area, a reading area, etc. Create a designated space for each activity you plan to do in the family room.
- Find storage solutions: Look for storage solutions that can maximize the space in your family room. Invest in items such as ottomans with built-in storage, shelves, and baskets to help keep the room organized.
- Invest in multi-functional furniture: Choose furniture that can serve multiple purposes. For example, opt for an ottoman that doubles as a coffee table, or a sofa bed for occasional guests.
- Utilize wall space: Hang shelves, artwork, and mirrors to give your family room a more open feel and also to provide additional storage.
With a little bit of effort, you can easily organize your family room and create a space that everyone can enjoy!

We use the Credenza to organize board games. I used reusable plastic bags to organize all the games.
Credenza Makeover Tutorial
This credenza makeover was a great success! It was a fun and creative project to work on, and the end result is stunning. We used a combination of paint and stain to achieve a unique look that is sure to be a conversation starter. The project was a great way to add some charm to an otherwise boring piece of furniture, and it was a great way to add a touch of character to any room.
