Dollar Tree Secret Craft Supplies

Everyone always asks me how I find the best craft supplies at Dollar Tree.

If you watch Dollar Tree shopping hauls and often find yourself asking, “Why doesn’t my Dollar Tree store carry that?”

Or you wonder why you can’t seem to find the same items shown in your favorite Dollar Tree DIYers videos…

You’re not alone.

But there are a few tips and tricks that might help you score those VIRAL Dollar Tree treasures.

I created a detailed video with the BEST craft supplies to stock up on at Dollar Tree and my shopping secrets.

Obviously, there’s a lot more I can say about this, as you can tell I’m pretty passionate about it, and that’s why I’m spilling the beans with these secrets!

What Are the Best Dollar Tree Craft Supplies?

The best Dollar Tree craft supplies are versatile basics you can use for multiple projects, including wood dowels, glue sticks, paintbrushes, paper, ribbon, fabric, storage containers, stickers and seasonal craft blanks. Inventory varies by location, so shop frequently, check multiple stores and purchase limited seasonal items when you find them.

7 Secrets to Finding the Best Dollar Tree Craft Supplies

After years of creating Dollar Tree DIY projects, I’ve learned that finding the best craft supplies often comes down to knowing when, where and how to shop. These are the strategies I use to find new products, seasonal favorites and those hidden Dollar Tree gems before they disappear.

1. Visit Dollar Tree Frequently

Dollar Tree rotates its inventory frequently, and popular craft supplies can disappear quickly. Visiting regularly gives you a better chance of finding new arrivals before they sell out. It can also help you learn when your local store typically restocks its shelves.

I have five Dollar Tree stores within about a 15-minute drive of my home, and I visit each one a few times a month. If I’m searching for a particular item, the stores are close enough that I can check several locations in one day.

You don’t necessarily need to visit that many stores, but stopping by your favorite location regularly can help you recognize new products as soon as they arrive.

2. Check Multiple Dollar Tree Locations

Not all Dollar Tree stores carry the same products. One store may have a large Crafter’s Square section, while another may be the best place to find seasonal decorations, wood blanks or larger home décor items.

Everyone always asks which Dollar Tree locations are my favorites. If you’re shopping in the Clearwater or St. Pete area of Florida, I usually have the best luck at the Indian Rocks Beach location and the large Dollar Tree near Bay Pines in St. Petersburg.

The Bay Pines store frequently carries larger items that I don’t see at my other local stores. If you ever see me shopping at one of these locations, please stop and say hello!

3. Shop Dollar Tree Online

You can find many Dollar Tree products on DollarTree.com and have qualifying orders shipped to a local store for free. Dollar Tree also occasionally offers affordable flat-rate shipping directly to your home.

Ordering online can save you time and gas, especially if you need multiples of the same item for a group project, party, craft night or products you plan to sell.

Online shopping is especially helpful for seasonal supplies. Dollar Tree often adds seasonal merchandise to its website before the products appear in local stores. Even if you prefer shopping in person, checking the website can help you create your shopping list and see what may be arriving soon.

If you find a seasonal product that you know you’ll need in multiples, ordering it online may be safer than waiting for it to appear locally. I’ve learned this lesson after watching viral seasonal products sell out and never return to my stores.

Want to see what’s available right now? Shop Dollar Tree online here and have qualifying items shipped to your local store for free.

4. Look Beyond the Crafter’s Square Aisle

Some of the best Dollar Tree craft supplies aren’t located in the craft aisle at all.

Be sure to check the:

  • Office supply aisle
  • Seasonal section
  • Toy aisle
  • Kitchen section
  • Party aisle
  • Hardware and automotive sections
  • Home décor shelves

Try looking at ordinary products as materials rather than only seeing their intended purpose. Glass jars, picture frames, kitchen utensils, office supplies and even toys can become the starting point for an affordable DIY project.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you may remember my Mystery Box Challenge projects. I’ve used all kinds of unexpected Dollar Tree products in my crafts—including a dish sponge that I turned into an adorable French fry Christmas ornament!

5. Ask Dollar Tree Employees About New Shipments

Don’t be afraid to politely ask an employee when new shipments arrive or whether a particular product is still waiting to be unpacked.

My local stores frequently have shipping boxes sitting in the aisles. Sometimes you can see a picture or product description printed on the side of the box. I’ve had employees offer to open a box when I was searching for a specific product.

Other employees have told me they weren’t allowed to open unopened boxes, so every store may handle this differently. However, it never hurts to ask politely.

6. Join Dollar Tree Groups and Online Communities

Dollar Tree Facebook groups, crafting communities and online forums can be incredibly helpful when you’re hunting for a particular item.

Members frequently share:

  • New Dollar Tree arrivals
  • Seasonal collections
  • The locations where items were found
  • Restock information
  • Creative ways to use new products
  • Photos of products that may be arriving in other stores soon

Members of my Craft & Create Club can also share their discoveries and projects inside our community.

I share many of my Dollar Tree shopping finds through my Instagram Reels and Stories. You can also search hashtags such as #DollarTreeFinds and #DollarTreeShopping on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and YouTube.

Following Dollar Tree creators in your area can be particularly helpful because regional inventory can vary.

7. Look for Multipurpose Craft Supplies

The best Dollar Tree craft supplies are often products you can use in several different ways.

Glass jars can become storage containers, candleholders or gifts. Picture frames can become signs, trays or decorative displays. Kitchen utensils, wood pieces and seasonal decorations can all be transformed with a little paint, vinyl or creativity.

Before purchasing something, ask yourself:

  • Can I use this in more than one type of project?
  • Can I personalize it with my Cricut or laser?
  • Can I turn it into home décor?
  • Could it become a handmade gift?
  • Is it useful for seasonal projects?
  • Is it significantly less expensive here than at a craft store?

Choosing versatile supplies helps you stretch your craft budget and prevents your craft room from filling up with products that only have one possible use.

My “Buy It Before It’s Gone” Rule

Dollar Tree inventory changes quickly, and there’s no guarantee that an item will still be available the next time you shop. If I find something unique that I know I’ll use, I usually follow my buy it before it’s gone rule.

This doesn’t mean buying every cute product you see. I’m more likely to purchase multiples when:

  • The product costs significantly more at another store.
  • I already have a project planned for it.
  • I know I’ll use several of them.
  • It’s a seasonal product with limited availability.
  • It’s likely to go viral and sell out.
  • I use that type of supply regularly.

Yarn is a good example. A large roll of yarn can cost considerably more at another craft store. If you crochet or already have a yarn project planned, stocking up at Dollar Tree may offer real value.

Before purchasing multiples, check your store’s current return or exchange policy. Policies can change, so it’s best to ask at the time of purchase and keep your receipt.

Found something you’ll need in multiples? Check Dollar Tree online before it sells out, especially when shopping for seasonal projects, parties or products to sell.

My Best Dollar Tree Seasonal Shopping Tip

Seasonal items are the most important products to purchase before they disappear because Dollar Tree doesn’t carry them all year.

If you plan your projects in advance, check DollarTree.com before the season begins. Seasonal supplies often appear online before they arrive in stores. This can help you identify the items you want and decide whether to order them or wait for them to reach your local store.

If you need multiples for a party, craft class, holiday project or Etsy product, ordering online and choosing free store pickup can be much easier than driving to several locations.

My Must-Have Dollar Tree Craft Supplies

These are the affordable craft supplies I look for regularly and keep organized in my craft room.

1. Wood Dowels and Wood Skewers

Wood dowels and skewers are useful for countless crafts, school projects and DIY home décor ideas. They can provide structure, support or decorative detail.

You can use them to make:

  • DIY picture frames
  • Small signs
  • Plant stakes
  • Craft structures
  • Kids’ science projects
  • Seasonal decorations
  • Handles and display stands

I keep my wood dowels and skewers together in a glass vase in my craft room so they’re easy to see and grab.

2. Hot Glue Sticks

Hot glue sticks are essential for almost every crafter, and Dollar Tree carries several affordable options.

Depending on current inventory, you may find:

  • Standard hot glue sticks
  • Full-size hot glue sticks
  • Colorful glue sticks
  • Glitter glue sticks

Be sure to check which size your glue gun requires before purchasing them. I store my hot glue sticks in a clear candy jar, which keeps them contained while making it easy to see when I’m running low.

3. Paintbrushes and Foam Brushes

Dollar Tree offers paintbrushes in several sizes and styles. I like stocking up on inexpensive foam brushes and larger paintbrushes for painting wood signs, furniture makeovers and other DIY projects.

The smaller art brushes are useful for details, touch-ups and kids’ crafts. I organize my paintbrushes upright in a glass vase in my craft room.

4. Cardstock and Paper Supplies

Dollar Tree paper products are helpful for card making, scrapbooking, kids’ crafts and adding texture to DIY projects.

Look for supplies such as:

  • Cardstock
  • Construction paper
  • Tissue paper
  • Scrapbook paper
  • Poster board
  • Paper dividers

I organize my cardstock and dividers vertically on a bookcase so I can see the available colors without digging through a pile.

5. Ribbon, Burlap and Twine

Ribbon, burlap and twine can add the finishing touch to handmade gifts, wreaths, signs and seasonal décor.

Basic colors such as black, white, red and green are useful throughout the year. If you find several patterns or textures in coordinating colors, consider purchasing them together. That makes it easier to mix and match ribbons when creating bows or decorating projects.

I store my ribbon on a large dowel that hangs on the bookcase in my craft room.

6. Felt and Fabric

Dollar Tree frequently carries fat-quarter fabric bundles in different colors and patterns. These can be used for sewing, quilting and smaller craft projects.

The felt sheets and rolls may not be as thick, durable or vibrant as higher-end craft-store felt, but they can still be a practical option for:

  • Beginners
  • Kids’ crafts
  • School projects
  • Practice pieces
  • Experimental projects
  • Casual seasonal crafts

Affordable supplies make it easier to experiment without worrying about wasting expensive materials. My kids have grabbed Dollar Tree felt from my craft room for all kinds of random projects, and I don’t mind because it was so inexpensive.

I keep fabric in clear containers and display my felt rolls neatly rolled on my craft-room shelves.

7. Storage Containers

Dollar Tree is one of my favorite places to find affordable craft-room organization supplies. You can organize many of the materials on this list using containers from the same store.

Depending on availability, look for:

  • Clear lidded containers
  • Small divided organizers
  • Pencil boxes
  • Plastic baskets
  • Trays
  • Jars
  • Stackable bins
  • Drawer organizers

I’ve created several projects and tutorials showing how I use Dollar Tree containers to organize and transform my craft room.

8. Stickers and Peel-and-Stick Decals

Dollar Tree stickers are perfect for scrapbooking, card making, planner decorating and adding small details to craft projects.

The affordable price makes it easier to experiment with different themes, colors and styles. I especially like using Dollar Tree alphabet stickers and peel-and-stick decals to personalize home décor and craft projects.

9. Seasonal Craft Supplies

Dollar Tree’s seasonal craft section is one of the best places to find inexpensive materials that can be transformed into unique decorations.

Some of my favorite seasonal products include:

  • Color-your-own ornaments
  • Wood blanks
  • Seasonal signs
  • Felt decorations
  • Garland
  • Ribbon
  • Florals
  • Small decorative accessories

These products tend to sell quickly, so this is one category where I’m most likely to buy what I need as soon as I see it.

Is Dollar Tree Vinyl Worth Buying?

You may have noticed that Dollar Tree vinyl isn’t included in my must-have list. Although I’ve tested it and have a collection of different vinyl products in my craft room, my favorite permanent vinyl is still Oracal 651.

That doesn’t mean Dollar Tree vinyl is unusable. It can be an affordable choice if you’re:

  • Learning how to use a Cricut
  • Practicing cutting and weeding
  • Testing a new design
  • Making a temporary project
  • Experimenting with patterned vinyl
  • Crafting on a limited budget

The Dollar Tree sheets are relatively inexpensive, so you don’t have much to lose by testing one to see how it works with your machine and project. It simply isn’t one of the supplies I personally stock up on.
