I made this free0standing umbrella base by using a Dollar Tree flower pot, cement, and PVC pipe to fit the umbrellas that we had.
How do you make an umbrella portable stand?
This DIY umbrella stand is portable because it weighs under 25 lbs and most people can lift it to move it. You could add a rolling cart (wood with wheels) or add wheels to the flower pot.
How do you make an umbrella planter?
I share how to make an umbrella planter stand in this tutorial. I did not add flowers to my finished umbrella stand, but you could easily add flowers to your DIY umbrella stand! I’d recommend leaving space at the top so you can add soil and flowers. Or use 2 flower pots, one inside the other, and the outer pot filled with flowers.
Can you use an umbrella stand without a table?
Yes! Although, you will want to make sure the umbrella you use has lightweight compared to the base you are using. You don’t want the umbrella to be top-heavy and easily blown over by the wind.

How To Make The Dollar Tree DIY Umbrella Stand:
Supplies:
- Large, Durable Flower Pot (I used a 10-inch Ariana pot from Dollar Tree – this link is for the 6-inch)
- Concrete
- PVC Pipe (ours is 1-inch diameter)
- Water
- Spray Paint (optional)
- Safety Face Mask
- Outdoor Umbrella to fit your DIY base (we used this umbrella)
Directions:
- Gather Supplies. Be sure to wear a safety work mask when pouring the cement!
- Cut the PVC pipe if you need to cut yours to size. You can find pre-cut PVC pipes at home improvement stores. We cut ours to 10.5 inches.
- Add water to the flower pot.
- Follow the instructions on the cement packaging. We slowly added dry cement to the water and used a stick to stir the cement until it reached the consistency and desired height level.
- Use plastic wrap on the end of the PVC pipe and stick directly in the center of the pot through the cement.
- Let the cement dry completely. We waited a few days for ours to dry.
- If desired, spray paint the flower pot to match your decor and let it dry. I used high-heat spray paint in black.
- Place the outdoor umbrella inside the PVC pipe.
- Attach the umbrella to the stand by drilling a screw into the PVC pipe and the umbrella pole. If you need to remove the umbrella, simply unscrew the screw,
