Thirteen-Year-Old Girl Bedroom Remodel
A bedroom remodel for a thirteen-year-old girl could include adding new bedding, wall decor, and furniture to reflect her personal style and interests. It can also be a good opportunity to declutter and organize the space to create a more functional and inviting atmosphere. Consider incorporating storage solutions and a study area to accommodate homework and hobbies.
I sat down with my daughter and planned her bedroom remodel together. I used a spiral notebook to draw a sketch of her room and noted the most important details and her wishlist.
Here are some of the items she wanted for her teen bedroom makeover:
- Plant Wall
- Gallery Wall above her bed
- Comfortable Corner Chair
- Green Painted Walls
- Declutter Items she no longer used
- Fabric Headboard
- Black-Out Curtains
- Board & Batten (which we ended up not doing)
BEFORE
Before this makeover, her room had two walls that we painted teal with a lot of white accents.
AFTER
We transformed her room into a boho-chic teen girl’s dream room.
Plant Wall
We had some picture frame shelves that we arranged to create this plant wall. She wanted mostly fake plants to keep it low maintenance but I snuck in one real plant 🙂 To keep it under budget, I looked around our house for faux plants to use on this wall. I used Dollar Tree greenery stems and Dollar Tree terracotta pots that I had stashed in our garden shed. This shelf decor literally cost us $0 to create!
The paintings are artwork that she did herself! Creativity runs in our family y’all! The boho picture frames are Dollar Tree DIY (find the tutorial here) and I used tropical photos found on Deposit Photos and printed them at home.
She had some little trinkets that she added to this shelf as well. I was searching online for a tropical beach photo with an orange VW Bus in it and I couldn’t find one so I decided to make one! I used Canva to edit 2 pictures together to create the below photo. and you’d never know!
Gallery Wall
For the Gallery Wall, we started with the large beach painting and the sun artwork that we found at Home Goods. We used these items as our inspiration for the room decor and color theme. She even picked the wall paint color from one of the green colors in the beach painting!

I found the other large frames at a thrift store for $4 and $5 each. We used a variety of wood and gold frames with glass. I used Dollar Tree white posterboard as the backing inside the frames and used tape to attach the Amazon prints and the quote that I printed at home.
I made the macrame banner and she used it in her room in the before photo. I just draped it over an empty frame!
Comfortable Corner Chair
We found this comfy swivel chair at a thrift store. It was in perfect condition and fit in the corner of her room. This is a great study spot or chair to relax and hang out. I love that the bed and chair face the door so she can see the rest of the house. The vibe is perfect for teenagers.
Green Painted Walls
We painted the 2 teal walls in Behr Boreal. It’s a sage-ish, teal-ish green. The other walls are painted BM Simply White.
Declutter Items she no longer used
She decluttered her entire room and closet and we donated or sold items. She is at the phase where she hasn’t played with Barbie dolls in years so that was one of the items to go. We reduced the amount of furniture in her room and moved the bed, which now makes it feel more inviting and relaxing.
Fabric Headboard
She’s been begging for a tufted headboard since her last headboard was an iron design. Her hair would get caught in it and she wanted to be able to sit against a headboard and work on her computer or relax.
We found this amazing Zinus fabric platform bed with a tufted headboard at Sam’s Club. I love Zinus! Our Primary Bedroom bedframe is Zinus, my son’s mattress is Zinus, and we had a Zinus sofa before!
Black-Out Curtains
Funny story, these dark turquoise curtains were the first thing I ordered for her bedroom. I had no idea what they looked like in person or if they’d look good with the green wall she wanted but they turned out perfect!
The only thing I have left to do with these curtains is to cut each panel in half to create 4 total panels. Her windows are very narrow and these curtain pannels are wide so to save money, I plan to cut them and sew them.
Board & Batten (which we ended up not doing)
I personally dislike board and batten or any wood trim on walls. If you’ve ever had to remove board and batten, you know why I hate it! It’s beautiful when taken care of, but the board and batten walls are a dust collector and a pain in the @$$ to repair if you ever remove it. So I convinced her she didn’t need board and batten 😉
Dresser Addition (Refurbishing and Wall Decor coming soon!)
On the other side of the room, we added a vintage dresser which I plan to refurbish! She picked this dresser out and it’s really beautiful in person. I’d love to hang a TV on the wall above the dresser but she is still deciding if she wants a TV. Otherwise, I might add a large Neon Sign or DIY a sign for this wall.

Some ideas for a 13-year-old girl’s bedroom with an aesthetic vibe could be incorporating pastel colors, string lights, patterned bedding, wall tapestries, and decorative pillows. You can also add some DIY elements like a photo wall or hanging plants to make the room feel more personalized.
