Since Spring weather has finally appeared, it’s time to rotate Winter clothes to Spring. If you have been procrastinating doing the task to rate your wardrobe, it’s probably because you own too many clothes and the thought to “schedule” the time to do it is overwhelming. Well, it doesn’t have to be if you are willing and able to reduce the number of pieces in your wardrobe. I know this is hard for those with a day job that require a business professional look along with several casual items- trust me, I have been there! I’m sharing how to Reduce Your Wardrobe to Only 10-Items and Change Your Life.
My solution is to plan a Wardrobe Capsule each season with a few wardrobe year-round basics (mentioned in this post) and adding a few select seasonal items. Creating a wardrobe capsule has many benefits including time saving (you don’t have to think about what to wear in the morning), money-saving (no more buying something just because it’s on sale!), clutter reducing (less stuff taking up your home). There’s also the fact that you have less laundry piling up (more clothes means putting off laundry and the pile grows bigger!). I always have the smallest pile of clothes when I do laundry in our house!
I rotate items every 3 months except for my year-round basics/favorites. I decided to challenge myself this season to see how many outfit combinations I could put together using only 10 items… I encourage you to take this challenge and eliminate clutter in your closet for good!
In this post, I mentioned how I organize and plan my outfits for the season. I recommend trying one my ideas but you will need to downsize your wardrobe significantly in order for those to work for you. Revisit this post for How To Minimize Your Wardrobe or just get rid of everything (haha, if it were only that easy) and start new with a few items like I’m about to show you.
With only 10 pieces from my Spring Capsule, I was able to create several outfits. Once I add in my basics, I will have enough outfit combinations to last for the rest of Spring! Below is a list of the 10 items that I used and some of my favorite items in my capsule along with how I wore them.
Spring 10-Item Wardrobe
One of my most favorite items in my closet for Spring (and Fall) is a denim jacket. I recently wore my denim jacket with a dark chambray dress (below) and it was adorable. Denim on denim may seem very 80’s but you can pull it off with a light/dark denim or chambray combination.
I also love my chambray dress to wear year-round. There are so many ways to wear this dress making it a staple in anyone’s closet. It is so versatile and can be worn dressy or casual with the right accessories. Here’s a tip to moms that don’t like to wear dresses to the playground with their kids (and yes, I’m probably the only mom at the playground NOT wearing yoga pants, lol) – wear bike shorts under your dress so if you are bending down/playing with kids there is no risk of showing your goodies, lol.
I recently added white jeans to my closet. I don’t think I’ve worn white jeans since I was in my early 20’s but I wanted to add jeans other than what I already own in my basics – black, light denim and dark denim. The reason why I haven’t owned white jeans was because great looking white jeans are so hard to find – you can see every body flaw with the wrong pair! I finally settled on some from Old Navy believe it or not! They are straight-legged so I can roll them up like boyfriend jeans or wear them straight for a dressier look.
My next favorite item was a ThredUp find. This was my first time shopping on ThredUp – I was looking for a dress for another event and decided to get this pretty peach maxi dress (similar one here). I really liked the color an think it’s going to be a great neutral for Spring/Summer and will look pretty to wear to church or a Spring wedding. I recommend checking out ThredUp if you look for high-end brands at a low cost. Go through this link to get $10 just for creating an account!
I really liked introducing a peach color into my capsule so I added a peach lace tunic. Not everyone can wear this color, I’m lucky enough to barely pull it off and hope that after I get a sun-kissed complexion that it will compliment my features more.
These were my go-to sandals last Summer and the cognac color is versatile to wear with everything.
I’m in love with these fringe sandals (similar) for Spring! They are super comfortable and stylish.
For running errands/play-dates, I stick with my Converse shore-line sneakers. I’ve owned the original Converse Chuck Taylor’s and the Shore-Line style is much more comfortable and easy to slip on and off (perfect for busy moms!)
Below is the full list of the 10 pieces that I added to my Spring wardrobe capsule. If you are just starting a wardrobe capsule or follow a capsule method, I would love to hear how the process benefits you! Be sure to follow our Pinterest Fashion board for more wardrobe inspiration.
